finally found the title of this book I had as a kid.
Familiar Animals of America

before that it had belonged to one of my parents when they were a kid.
it had very in depth descriptions of animals and was one of my favorites.
(even though it was old and smelled kind of funny)

i loved this illustration of a "ringtail or cacomistle"
